In 2006, IDEA began investing in BIM technologies and integrating their use into daily practices. Today both our offices and all three of our major disciplines (architecture, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering) use these systems for design purposes. While our BIM strategies can include many different platforms and workflows, our baseline strategy is leveraging Autodesk Revit with Add-In workflows.

Our basic approach to BIM, with Revit software, is to model a parametric 3D representation to the level of detail (LOD) indicated on our BIM execution plans, developed for each major project (PxP). We use the software as more than just a drafting tool, mapping to the ISO 16739 Standard and ensuring that component category, parameter values, materiality and identity information is clear and appropriate to project context.
