This Acute Care facility replaces two existing hospitals. It contains 300 beds, with a variety of acute care and support services, most notable of which are the cancer center, emergency, critical and ambulatory care. As a teaching hospital, it provides space for the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, telehealth and auditorium. The design strategy involves a horizontal model which places unlike building elements dependently so as to enable maximum flexibility and future expansion. Outpatient services are located at the main entrance level to ease access for patients.
