Ojibway Park, classified as a Sensitive Heritage Area, historically served as a traditional site for harvesting medicinal plants. Garden River First Nation commissioned IDEA Inc to prepare a Master Plan for the park’s growth and restoration based on social, economic and cultural programming. The Master Plan is divided into seven experiential nodes that reflect the characteristics of the Seven Fires in the migration legend (Midiwewin Migratio). Each node will explore specific cultural and traditional activities in response to the site’s landscape. Programming includes the Harvest and Fish Market, Ecological Park, Outdoor and Indoor Gathering, Crafting and Storytelling, Nature Walks and finally, the Ceremonial Space.
